The McDonough County Special Recreation Association provides a wide variety of programming for individuals with disabilities, including Special Olympics, special events and trips, parties, Ceramics and more!

 

Summer Camp

MCSRA hosts a 6-week summer camp during June-July.

Our summer camp is filled with ACTIVE ADVENTURES, like swimming, field trips to Burlington, Iowa, community volunteer days, and more! You don’t want to miss out of this opportunity as camper spots are limited.

Registration opens on April 20th at 9:00am.

Adult Camp Dates

All dates meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 9:00am-3:00pm, unless otherwise specified.

  • July 7th-9th

  • July 14th-16th

  • July 21st-23rd


Youth Camp dates

All dates meet Monday and Wednesdays, from 9:30am-2:30pm, unless otherwise specified.

General Programming

MCSRA’s General Programs are weekly programs offered throughout the program season. These programs strive to allow participants to build relationships with their peers, build routine/structure, and be part of the community around them!

Special Events and Trips

MCSRA’s Special Events are one time gatherings or activities, where participants can engage with their peers, explore new interests, and be part of the community around them!

Youth Programming

Youth Programming will be a new and exciting addition to the services already be provided to the community for the 2026 program season! All youth events will be one time gathering or activities, where children can learn positive social behaviors, explore sensory safe environments, and create new friendships!

 

Special Olympics of Illinois

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness; demonstrate courage; experience joy; and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympians and the community.

As of December 2025, Special Olympics will use the COE portal for all registration and paperwork required to participate in sports and events.

 
 
 

Other Services

Leisure Education

Through the MCSRA Leisure Education program, students can learn valuable skills that can be used beyond the classroom.  Activities are designed to meet the goals of each classroom through a collaborative planning process with teachers.  MCSRA looks forward to serving the needs and meeting the diverse interests of students through Leisure Education!

Inclusion Aids

Inclusion is a process that is always ongoing and working to adapt when necessary. As each individual’s needs are unique, inclusion support is customized to fit the program or service in which the individual is participating.
